O EAT ME O READ ME SOMETHING ★
Brought to you by @dogstarzine
Summer's hot wet tongue is swiftly approaching and we are thinking about heat, about consumption, about bringing what we have and being with each other.
How can we write between and about all the chaos and the shit? How am I supposed to feel good when everything costs exactly fourteen dollars? Why am I so sweaty in the deli aisle and where the fuck are the pitted olives?
What if everything felt better shared? What if the blows land softer when you're holding a bowl of cold tinned apricots in your warm sticky hands? What if you went to the beach instead of just saying you should go to the beach? What if someone you know had parents with an in-ground pool?
Wednesday November 15, at Unassigned Gallery from 6pm, we humbly invite you to join us for an evening of sharing across the table. Bring something to read, or a plate to share, or both if you think you're better than everyone else. Every speaker gets 10 minutes of airtime, which they may use in any way they like. There will be a signup sheet on the night for any last-minute speakers. (*Note: there are limited speaking slots on the night, so if you throw your hat in the ring too late, fear not! You will be automatically added to the waitlist to read at our next event).
We ask that you pay what you can to help cover venue hire costs, whether you can spare a dollar or five or nothing at all, nobody with a ticket will be turned away. Just make sure you book so that we have your name on the list. If ticket sales exceed hire costs, all surplus earnings will be donated to Pay The Rent.
O EAT ME, READ ME SOMETHING is brought to you by Dogstar Zine. We acknowledge and extend our utmost respect to the Elders and sovereign peoples of the land on which we work and meet, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We support and advocate for Treaty and truth-telling. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
ACCESSIBILITY: There are no stairs in the venue, however the event will be held out the back of the gallery in the open-air garden which is accessible via an alleyway. if you have any further questions about accessibility on the night, please don't hesitate to contact the organisers.
Please register attendance whether you are reading or not, so we can keep track of numbers. This event is pay as you can, whether it be a dollar, 5, or none. No one will be turned away. If the amount raised exceeds production costs, the Dogstar team will be donating the remaining amount to Pay the Rent.
